Porohy #9 (2025)

In the new issue of Porohy, we turn to themes that define our ability to remain conscious in an age of manipulation. In the article “The Occupation of Consciousness,” we examine how Russian structures step by step built their presence in Ukraine’s media space, blurring our cultural boundaries. It is a story about how indifference is formed — and how it can be overcome through civic oversight.

Alongside this, we give voice to Czech volunteers who, risking their own lives, are fighting for Ukraine. Their motivation lies in the determination to stand on the side of truth, even when the price may be their own lives.

Finally, we explore the question of identity through the figure of Andriy Vargola, better known as Andy Warhol. His art, which transformed the world, serves as a hidden key to the artist’s inner universe — one that begins on the slopes of the Carpathians, in the Lemko region.

This issue is an attempt to speak about responsibility as the deepest form of freedom: the freedom to think, to doubt, and to ask questions.
