Porohy #11 (2024)

This issue of Porohy highlights the life of the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic, focusing on daily practices of solidarity, support, and engagement. In Community Chronicles and the Digest, you will find a snapshot of events that shape the space of our presence abroad, while the feature on informational assistance to refugees shows how knowledge and resources are transformed into concrete support for people in challenging circumstances.

We explore how Ukrainians integrate into society while preserving their own identity, and sociological analysis reveals what Czechs think about supporting Ukraine and the prevailing attitudes in the country. Psychological support is a separate focus, as understanding the community’s inner state is crucial for any collective action.

The Conversation and social media column trace different voices — from personal experience to civic engagement — while the feature on Stepan-Yuriy Maslyak and his translation of The Good Soldier Švejk brings us back to cultural heritage, which shapes ways of thinking and perceiving the world.
